Our

message

Townhall Radio is a content network dedicated to mobilising for constructive social change. We provide a proactive platform for examining development issues bestriding Sub-Sahara Africa. And articulating viable solutions to improve living conditions for all.

There is a desperate need for basic institutional transformations in Sub-Sahara Africa. Institutional reforms are needed to cater for the continent's rapidly growing population. Nowhere is this need more urgent than in Nigeria. With a young population of over 200 million, Nigeria is about 15% of the continent's population. It is an oil-rich country, yet it currently records the highest incidence of multi-dimensional poverty in the world. What a paradox! What a shame! Never, has a country that is given so much, had so little to show for it. Nigeria is emblematic of Africa's post-independence dismal performance and stunted socio-economic development. Despite being endowed with huge and unbounded human and natural resources. The country is now a poster child for mass poverty, endemic corruption, insecurity, etc.  Never has the need for social change been more desperate.

Townhall Radio joins the growing strident voices to reject this tragic post-independence narrative. We can no longer be contented with the deteriorating poor conditions of living. Our leadership problems are compounded by complicit indolent followership. We must rise to eschew corruption, mediocrity and other crippling conventions.

We must resolve to join the rest of the world in development to enable better living conditions for our people.

Social change can be achieved when people band together and form organisations to focus their collective power. It’s within our power to advance the change we need. We are at a critical point, where we need to swim or sink. Our fate is in our hands. And the time is now. He who waits for dead men’s shoes is in danger of going barefoot! It is this belief that inspires us.

Townhall Radio platform is development solution-oriented. We are committed to interrogating viable solutions to our development challenges. We advocate for a basic shift in mindset that is necessary to achieve the change we need. We are also committed to empowering the people and giving a voice to the voiceless. We will encourage proactive social intervention actions to assist those in need.

If you share similar aspirations, it is our desire that you join and support us in this effort. As a collective, we need to reset our development trajectory. We need to radically improve our living conditions. And to offer our children and future generations better opportunities, equipped to compete with the rest of the world. We join our voice to that of Rev. Ralph Abernathy – “If you see a good fight, get in it. And fight to win it.”  We hope that you find value here. And if you do, endeavour to share with others. Together, we are stronger!

Welcome and thank you for visiting!

Our

vision of social change

Social Change for us means a transformation of our cultural and social institutions in such a way that enables good governance, and rapid human and socio-economic development for all.

It is the change which, guarantees – gainful employment opportunities and improvement in living conditions for all; drastic reductions in poverty levels, infant and maternal mortality; increase in life expectancy, literacy levels, security of life and property; establish rule of law, respect for human rights and social justice for all; ensuring freedom of expression and genuine democratic rule based on equitable representation and free & fair elections.

It means developing institutions that will enable the unleashing of our enormous development potential in competing effectively and contributing our fair share within the global comity of nations.

Our

mission

To sensitise, mobilise and galvanise for constructive social change in Nigeria

We aim to provide a proactive platform for informed progressive minds to critically analyse issues confronting the Nigerians and peoples of Sub-Sahara Africa with the view to articulating and documenting viable solutions to improve the living conditions and well-being of all.

Focus on State

To provide a platform for refining and sharing valuable ideas to reinvent high-quality leadership and good governance culture at all levels of government in Nigeria/ Sub-Sahara Africa.

Focus on Individual

disseminate critical knowledge and tools that enable a shift toward a desirable social change mindset, empowering individuals to not only enhance their potential but have the power to advance the change we need and desire for the overall well-being of society.

Focus on Community

To showcase and analyse local economic development best practices around the world and provide insights on how best to adapt and leverage such practices to the Nigerian/ Sub-Sahara African environment for the benefit of the people and society.

Social Advocacy

To give voice to the voiceless in Nigeria. Townhall Radio will pursue an advocacy agenda to offer intervention assistance (where possible) on severe cases of oppression, abuse, and denial of basic rights of especially the weakest members of our society.

Our

Core Areas of Focus

Our core areas of focus area Leadership & Governance, Local Economic & Community Development, Individual Empowerment & Development and Giving Voice Advocacy Campaign. See more details below.

Leadership and Governance

The culture of corruption and abysmal leadership constitute the significant problems that have crippled the current Nigerian society. Related to these issues is the ongoing Nigerian Question debate. There is a strong contention that a fundamental restructuring of the Nigerian State is necessary to create a more enabling environment for more accelerated national development. Furthermore, monumental post-independence governance and leadership failures, brazen corruption, looting of the national treasury and resource mismanagement have resulted in the current situation where despite its huge natural resource base, Nigeria currently records the highest incidence of extreme poverty in the world. The Nigerian government is increasingly unable to provide or guarantee the security of lives and property in any part of the country. Related to this is the docile followership that has tolerated successive mediocre governments over the years. Nigerians seem to have developed an infinite capacity to condone impossible excesses of corrupt public office holders. This situation is unacceptable and underscores the urgent need for drastic change. Townhall Radio would seek to provide insights on how best to develop institutional structures and systems that will ensure better governance at all levels.

Individual Empowerment & Development

We believe that the quality of the collective is rooted in the quality of the individual. We cannot significantly improve the quality of society without improving the quality of the individuals that make up society. No nation can begin to reach its potential without individuals being aware of their possibilities. Galvanising for social change necessarily requires a change in the mindset of critical mass. It requires individuals to grow and sharpen their development mindset towards the change they desire. Townhall Radio intends to promote a shift towards a “social change-oriented mindset” development for the critical mass of our people. We would lead talk shows that distil an extensive body of information and knowledge in the areas of mindset and personal growth and their linkages with developing a proactive followership culture that demands more from those in leadership.

Local Economic & Community Development

Critical to overall social and economic development in Nigeria is the underlying challenges of stimulating local economic and community development at the local level. Unfortunately, in Nigeria, poor leadership and governance culture and its resultant decades of resource mismanagement have led to systemic failures and dysfunction of institutions and infrastructures that should have enabled economic development at the local level. Thus, exacerbating under-productivity at the local community level and under-performance of the local economy. Townhall Radio intends to contribute towards the reversal of this trend by promoting re-directing productive energies to boost local and community economic development. We will lead solution-driven talk shows to provide insights into how local economy and community development can be actively enabled and supported in different sectors. Such programmes would highlight best practices and successful experiences in other places that are relevant to the Nigerian

Giving Voice Advocacy Campaign

Often an environment such as Nigeria that is rife with corruption, endemic poverty, social exclusion, discrimination, ethnic prejudice, marked inequality, lack of institutional protection, poor justice, and law and order delivery tends to encourage social injustice. As a result, flagrant abuse of power, denial of basic rights of individuals, intimidation and cultural impunity where the strong readily preys on the weak are all too common. Our radio platform would proactively seek to give voice to those who suffer injustice. It would seek to expose and shine a light on reported cases from Nigerians. It would also encourage intervention assistance to victims (where possible).
