Kenyan President William Ruto dissolves cabinet amid ongoing protests

In a shocking move, President William Ruto of Kenya, on Thursday, dismissed his entire cabinet, including the attorney-general, effective immediately.

The decision follows weeks of protests against a controversial tax bill, which led to at least 30 deaths and the eventual withdrawal of the bill.

Ruto attributed his decision to the need for a “broad-based government” and promised to engage in widespread consultations with various sectors and political formations to achieve this goal.

The move is seen as an attempt to address the growing discontent and restore stability in the country.

The dissolution of the cabinet does not affect Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who cannot be legally fired, and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who also serves as the foreign affairs minister.

Principal secretaries will oversee the affairs of the ministries until a new cabinet is appointed.
