The 36-year-old Spaniard made the revelation in a video shared on his social media accounts on Thursday, as he continues his recovery from hip surgery.
The tennis great has not played since losing in the second round of the Australian Open in January and is targeting a comeback in January 2023 at the Brisbane International.
In the video, Nadal admitted he has contemplated retiring from the sport on multiple occasions due to his lengthy injury struggles.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion said the support of those around him has helped keep “the illusion” of a comeback alive during difficult rehabilitation phases.
