Court orders final forfeiture of warehouse linked to Emefiele

Justice Dehinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court, Lagos, on Thursday ordered the final forfeiture of a warehouse linked to a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.

The judge, who gave the ruling in a motion filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), also ordered the permanent forfeiture of 54 general purpose steel containers.

The commission had alleged that the warehouse built on a landed property measuring 1.925 hectares of land along the Lagos/Ibadan expressway in Magboro, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State were acquired from proceeds of fraud.

The judge on November 28 ordered the temporary forfeiture of the property following an application by EFCC counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN).

He also directed the EFCC to publish the order in the national newspaper, for any interested person to appear before the court and show cause why it should not be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government.
