The military high command on Friday said troops in collaboration with the operatives of the Department of State Services arrested the leader of Islamic State for West African Province terrorist group in North Central and North West Zones.
Although the military did not identify the terrorist leader, it said he was in custody.
A statement on Friday by the Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba said the resolve of the military to go after the leaders of the terrorist groups led to the arrest of the terrorist leader.
He noted that air operations conducted in the regions have led to the destruction of the terrorists’ enclaves.
Buba also said troops killed 52 terrorists and arrested 204 in the last week.
He added that 234 kidnapped victims were also rescued.
