Seychelles Declares State of Emergency After Devastating Explosion and Flooding

Seychelles has declared a state of emergency following a massive explosion at an industrial zone on the main island, Mahé, coupled with severe flooding.

President Wavel Ramkalawan has issued a directive for all citizens, excluding essential workers, to stay at home as the nation grapples with the aftermath of the catastrophe.

The explosion, which occurred at a construction and quarrying company storing explosives in the Providence industrial area, has left numerous individuals injured and caused extensive damage to the surrounding regions.

The incident has prompted a significant response from emergency personnel.

Despite the industrial zone being situated in Providence, the blast’s impact reached the international airport, located 4km (2.5 miles) away.

The airport sustained damage, adding to the challenges faced by authorities in managing the crisis.
