Nigerian Afrobeats star, Davido, has voiced his concerns about the lack of visionary leadership in Nigeria, which he believes is holding the nation back from reaching its full potential. In an interview with Elevate Africa published on YouTube on Thursday, the internationally acclaimed artist spoke about the resilience of Nigerians and the critical need for effective governance to propel the country forward.
“We can’t go forward without…we need the best leaders now first, that’s the most important thing,” Davido said, stressing that strong leadership is the key to unlocking Nigeria’s greatness.
Reflecting on the adaptability and determination of Nigerians, Davido pointed out that surviving in Nigeria is a testament to the people’s strength and resilience.
He remarked, “I tell people, I say if you can survive in Lagos or you can survive in Nigeria rather, you can survive anywhere. I feel like we’re survivors; we’re strong-willed people.”
When asked about Africa’s progress and the role of music in driving development, the Timeless singer highlighted the global presence and influence of Nigerians as evidence of their potential.
“Nigeria, if you go anywhere in the world, everybody has Nigerian friends. Whether you’re Chinese or…you have Nigerian friends everywhere in the world. I fly to do shows, Nigerian restaurants are there, and Nigerian communities are there. It just shows that we’re a force,” he said.
Despite these achievements, Davido emphasised that Nigeria’s progress hinges on good governance. “I just feel the only thing is just missing is just the right leaders to lead us. Once we get that right, I don’t think there’s anything that will stop us,” he concluded.
