Four Officers, 12 Soldiers On Peace Mission Killed In Delta
At least 16 officers and men of the 181 Amphibious Battalion of the Nigerian Army, have been killed in an ambush while on a peace mission to the Okuoma community in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State.
Those killed were the commanding officer, two Majors, one Captain and 12 soldiers.
Acting Director, Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday, said, the troops were ambushed and killed on Thursday while responding to a distress call arising from a clash between Okuama and Okoloba communities in Delta.
While the incident had been reported to the Delta State Government, Gusai said, few arrests have been made and steps have been taken to unravel the motive behind the attack.
Meanwhile, Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, has directed immediate investigation and arrest of all the perpetrators.
